Crystal Ice Cave Tour Iceland:

In autumn each year ice caves begin to take shape and last throughout the winter. Caves can be found in several different locations on the south side of Vatnajökull. These trips are somewhat temperature dependent as Ice-caves must be treated with the utmost respect in regards to the ceiling being supportive along with other factors that your specialized guide evaluates constantly. You will have the chance to visit one of them during this trip and to have a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Please note that you must arrange your transportation to the meeting point which is 5 hours east of Reykjavik.  The bus schedule during the winter is very limited and will not get you to the meeting point so it is highly recommended to rent a car.  Please bring warm layers and good hiking boots or shoes (sometimes the ground can be muddy and sometimes we may be required to wear crampons -spikes for the ice).

If you are looking for other options that include glacier exploration (focused on a glacier walk vs. photographing an ice cave)  during the winter please check out the Blue Ice tour or Glaciers & Waterfalls which both include transportation to and from Reykjavik.

Meeting point: The Crystal Ice Cave Iceland tour departs from Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon which is located 379km from Reykjavik which means, at least, 4.5 hours drive from Reykjavik in best conditions. Staying close to the glacier lagoon for one night, either before or after you visit the ice cave is therefore not a bad idea. Please make sure to follow weather and road conditions before you take off – the weather can be very different just out of the city.

Disclaimer: All day trips are undertaken on the responsibility of its participants. Arctic Adventures does not assume any responsibility for accidents which are caused by its customers or can be traced to there own actions. Participants have to sign a waiver before undertaking all trips stating that they realize that all outdoor activities carry an inherent risk.

Check-in is no later than 15 minutes before the tour starts.

Ice caves are ever-changing natural phenomena that are only accessible during winter when the temperature drops well below zero so the water from the rivers that run underneath the glacier freezes and leaves us with this phenomena to explore. Each year new unique caves are formed in different locations. We will visit one naturally formed ice cave during this tour and the cave we visit is chosen based on conditions and safety each time.

Please note that the minimum age limit is 6 years old for this tour.
